Responding to the publication of the government’s Levelling Up White Paper, Geeta Nanda OBE, G15 Chair and Chief Executive of MTVH,
said:

“Levelling up access to opportunity in all areas is
absolutely critical to building a successful country. The White Paper sets out
a bold vision to help deliver this ambition and that is to be welcomed.

“A good quality, safe, and affordable home provides people
with the foundation from which to build their lives and to take advantage of
the opportunities that the government’s new approach seeks to deliver. This is
true in all areas of the country, including London where housing pressures are
most severe and where the need for more genuinely affordable homes must not be
ignored. For levelling up to live up to its name and to support the prosperity
of the entire country, we cannot see the life chances of people living in
London levelled down.

“It is welcome to see specific commitments around
regeneration, which housing associations play a critical role in delivering,
and we look forward to seeing further details. Likewise, we have been calling for legislation to be brought forward to implement new social housing regulation and are pleased to see this committed to in today’s announcements.

“We look forward to working with the government, partners,
and our residents, to support our shared ambition to transform the UK by
spreading opportunity and prosperity to all parts of it.”
